Batik

My mum sent me a batik starter kit for christmas. This is a hanky I spent saturday afternoon doing. The main problems were dripping the wax where I didn't want it and roughing up the silk. Silk is dainty; I am not. I'm thinking of getting some thicker material and trying to make cushion cases and eventually backdrops!

Spirit Garden cont.

My work for Spirit Garden Ethnobotanicals is progressing nicely... although I think "Ethnobotanicals" looks a little old fashioned. I think I saw an Apple Mac poster from the 80's using the same style...

Hairy Bum Fairy

What's this, Work? In PENCIL!?

When I was 16 years old my art teacher at the time and now mentor Mr Welbourne banned us all from using pencils in his class. I can't thank him enough, for pencils are shit. They make you precious about your work, they scan terribly and they are just...weak.

However, I'm doing some work for a friend who wants me to a cover for his ethnobotanical's catalogue. I was sitting at home when I was over come with the desire to start drawing, and had no pen in the house. It's the first time in a long time I've drawn with a pencil, drawn a naked woman or worked from home.

Solstice at The Stones

I did a lot of adventuring this winter, camped at Stonehenge, visited my mum in Weymouth, camped in a muddy field in Crediton for 7 days, went to London, Brighton, London and home again. Here are a few of my photos from the few days I spent at Stonehenge, camping on the track with 60 or so other hippies and druid types. Was a very spiritual time, I felt recharged, energised, healed. Maybe it was because I was camped 100 meters away from Stonehenge. Or maybe its because I was camped 2 meters away from my best friends.

New Year Family Gathering Flyer

I designed a flyer for a New Year party I helped throw with some friends. It was rather a large party. Approximately 160 to be a little more exact. 160 people in a big field, up to our ankles in mud. It was wonderful! Obviously I couldn't post the flyer online until after the party because we didn't want the word to get to the wrong people. Since we were doing it old school - no Facebook- and I decided that the flyer should be old school too. No fancy graphics, just a marker pen and a photocopier.

Oh, and this is the first post of the New Year! Woo! What an incredible year its been, so much growth, and of course growing pains. Bring on 2012, more growth, more community, more peace, more love, a gathering of the collective consciousness. Am I sounded reeeaaally hippy-dippy? Oh well!
